I realise this isn't Smeltz!
The All Whites (who now wear all black) did us proud in their friendly against World Cup holders Italy, despite going down 4-3. Sure it was a friendly and Italy were missing some players, but we actually scored goals against a team widely regarded as having the best defence in the world. Shane Smeltz and Chris Killen did well up front, but I am gutted that Smeltz won't be turning out for the Phoenix this season. Still, it was only a friendly and the litmus test will be containing Spain on Monday before hoping for some kind of result against South Africa and Iraq. I love watching us play on the big stage. Football is such a popular sport here, yet we rarely play as a nation. Later on this year we hopefully will qualify for the World Cup. Football's awesome!
